What are Stud and Track steel profiles?

In wall framing made of steel, track is normally horizontal (level) and stud is generally vertical (plumb). The track is anchored to the floor and to the ceiling. The studs fit inside the tracks. Tracks are smooth. Studs are frequently made with embossed sides to increase strength. Studs can be made with holes in the web to pass pipes, conduits, or Romex.
