What is a floor deck?

A floor deck, also known as a composite metal deck, is a ribbed metal sheet that is specifically designed to support the concrete. It contains divots in the metal that hold embossments which gives the concrete something to grab on to. The metal floor deck is only used to support concrete on a floor deck. When pouring the concrete onto the metal decking, it’s easier to get level ground and makes the concrete less likely to crack. Using metal floor decking also gives the ability to pour out a larger deck due to the support it gives. 

What is a roof deck?

A roof deck is a smooth sheet of metal that is not meant for concrete. It doesn’t contain any embossments on it, so it is unable to give the same support as a floor deck can. It still has the divots that you see on a floor deck. The main uses for a roof deck are for roofing on commercial buildings, but it can also be used for siding, fencing, dumpster covers, or even platforms.
